Au Hasard Balthazar

A profound masterpiece out of one of the filmmakers in the history of theatre, Robert Bresson's Au hasard Balthazar follows exactly the donkey Balthazar as he could be passed from owner to owner, some kind and some unkind but all with motives beyond his understanding. Balthazar, whose life parallels that of his first protagonist is quite a beast of burden, suffering humankind's sins. But despite his powerlessness, his fate is accepted by him nobly.
