The story follows a triad of Japanese youths of Chinese descent who escape their semi-rural upbringing as well as relocate to Shinjuku, Tokyo, where they befriend a troubled Shanghai woman of the street and drop nasty of a local criminal activity syndicate. Like much of Miike's jobs, the film analyzes the underbelly of commendable Japanese society and also the problems of assimilation dealt with by non-ethnically Japanese individuals in Japan.
