Mr. Jones
Gareth Jones, a Welsh journalist, boards a train from Moscow to Kharkov, Ukraine, in March 1933. His quest begins when he disembarks at a little station and decides to go on foot through the country to see what it is like to live through a famine. His path is blocked at every turn by Soviet secret service agents desperate to keep word of this calamity from reaching a wider audience. Strictly enforced agricultural collectivization by Stalin has led in anarchy and devastation. Jones, supported by Ada Brooks, a New York Times reporter, is able to displace Walter Duranty, a Pulitzer Prize-winning, pro-Stalin journalist, in the West by distributing the stunning news.
