Remember the Sultana
Over 2000 Union soldiers, guests and also crew were crammed aboard the boat Sultana, accredited to lug 376. Graft, greed, overcrowding, an inadequately kept boat, and the Mississippi River was puffy with springtime snowmelt conspired with each other to create a catastrophe. On April 27, 1865, the boat's boilers took off, causing the most awful maritime catastrophe in US history.
