Young adult Ben Mockridge feels life in a Wild West farm community has nothing far better to provide after that horse-cart racing with other hicks, so he naively asks cattle company owner Frank Culpepper to involve him as youngest cowboy for a long cattle route to a fort, his mom hardly notices. Ben doesn't also seem to get it when he's informed to report as 'little Mary' to the old chef, whose words cowboy is something you do only if you have absolutely nothing much better gradually become clear.
