The Only
The Only delves into the greatest triumphs and darkest defeats of U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame goalkeeper Briana Scurry's extraordinary life. The documentary delves into the inspirational glory and deeply dark corners of a Hall of Fame goalkeeper who was the only Black starter and the only openly gay player on the field. While celebrating Scurry's historic legacy, which includes two Olympic gold medals and a penalty save to help the United States win the 1999 Women's World Cup, the film also tells the story of how she overcame racism and homophobia during her greatest triumphs before finding herself on the verge of suicide after suffering a career-ending concussion.
