Mission: Impossible

The American television series Mission: Impossible was conceptualized and initially produced by Bruce Geller. It covers the missions of the Impossible Missions Force, a band of secret government agents. Dan Briggs, portrayed by Steven Hill, leads the squad in the first season; Jim Phelps, portrayed by Peter Graves, takes over in subsequent seasons. The series is characterized by Briggs or Phelps getting instructions on a recording that self-destructs, followed by Lalo Schifrin's theme music. The sitcom aired on CBS from September 1966 to March 1973, and then reappeared for two seasons on ABC from 1988 to 1990, with only Graves remaining from the original cast. Later, beginning in 1996, it inspired a popular series of theatrical movie features starring Tom Cruise.
